Bird Things in Spring 🐦🪺🐤🪶
It has been a different kind of spring. Last month we had one week of very warm, summer-like weather. This convinced most of the plants and trees that spring had arrived. Unfortunately, spring was still a few weeks away. Typically, the start of migration season is especially fun because the birds are arriving but the trees have only just started to bud. This allows excellent viewing opportunities. This year, the leaves arrived before the birds which was a different experience. Hopefully next year they coordinate their calendars better ;)
Birds + Technology
I had recently come across a blog post about someone who had setup a tiny computer and microphone to record the birds near their house. I thought this was a fun idea so I set one up for myself.
You can check out my recordings here.
In the photo above you can see my bird feeders and an interesting contraption in the foreground. The foreground object is a bird feeder that is protecting my microphone from the rain. I am using a small piece of a branch to make sure it doesn’t blow away.
My recordings are also shared with another website designed to track various bird audio and video around the world. It’s called BirdWeather.com.
